Daniel's European Dream

14 July 2011

One of the top scorers in Great Britain's Deaf Football Team was at risk of being left out of this year's European Deaf Football Championships.

After months of training, London-born Daniel Ailey, who is touted as one of deaf football's rising stars, was preparing to represent his country in one of deaf sport's biggest tournaments - the European Deaf Football Championships; but behind the scenes, lack of funds meant his position in the squad was at risk.

Members of UK Deaf Sports decided to approach the AlFayed Charitable Foundation for help, and were delighted when Camilla agreed that the Foundation would not only help, but provide all the remaining funds Daniel needed to play for Great Britain in Europe.

Daniel, who also plays for Fulham Deaf Football Club, scored some great goals. The team finished fourth overall, qualifying for both the 2012 World Championships and the 2013 Deaflympics.
